Eating is a habit, a routine that we do every day. We eat pretty much the same amount of food every day, more or less. However, what we don’t notice are the small increases in food intake that occur when we feel sad or nervous and this affects the next day’s food intake, as our body tells our brain that we need the same amount.

Tip 1)

Skipping breakfast. I’m sure you can go without eating for 3 hours until lunch! Despite what you may hear from the authorities (like supermarkets who want you to buy as much food as possible!), skipping a meal isn’t going to kill you. If you can skip breakfast and have the same amount of food for lunch and dinner, you’re cutting your calorie intake by perhaps a third. Do this for a few days and your stomach will shrink, thus decreasing your appetite.

Tip 2)

When you have those ridiculous cravings, the best thing you can do to get rid of them is actually a little exercise. It doesn’t matter how much, the more the better. You’ll find that cravings sometimes come down to cognitive patterns rather than physical needs. so forget about them with exercise or go for a walk somewhere else and they will go away.

Tip 3)

Drink a pint of water or 2. It will fill you up a bit, so if you give in to your cravings, you won’t eat as much as you should.

Tip 4)

Brush your teeth when you’re hungry. A clean, fresh mouth is hard to screw up once it’s done cleaning!

Tip 5)

Don’t overfill your closets!! This really should be tip number 1. When junk food is out there, it’s hard to keep it out. I never overstock as binge eating is terrible for weight gain, and that weight is really hard to shift.
