Sport bikes have become a passion among the youth of India. For a sports bike, performance is paramount. Speed, acceleration and braking ability are compromised, compromising fuel efficiency and comfort. Sports bikes with capacities starting at 150cc are available on the market. The more capacity, the more running costs. Therefore, the most popular sports bikes have capacities in the range of 200cc to 400cc.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 can be considered as a sports bike and a cruiser bike. The Bajaj Pulsar with a mileage of 55 kmpl, priced at Rs 67,145, is the best selling bike in India. Since power is insufficient for a sports bike, they launched the Pulsar NS in 2012. Powered by a 199cc, 23hp, liquid-cooled, 3-plug, carb-injected engine; gives a total mileage of 35 kmpl. Priced at around Rs 85,631, the Pulsar 200 NS accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 136 km/h. This 145kg bike has a ground clearance of 169mm.

The Duke 390, Bajaj’s second KTM offering, is priced at around Rs 1,80,934 and offers a mileage of 30 kmpl. This 373cc bike weighs 139kg and has a ground clearance of 170mm. This bike accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 2.6 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h.

The Honda CBR 250R priced at Rs 1,51,973 to 1,86,750 has a fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl. This bike weighing 167kg has a ground clearance of 145mm. It accelerates to 60 km/h in 4 seconds and has a top speed of 147 km/h. The Kawasaki Ninja 300R launched in October 2013 is priced at around Rs 3.3 lakh and is powered by a 296cc 39hp engine. The bike has 290 and 220mm size disc type brakes. The Ninja 300R with a weight of 172 kg accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 2.56 seconds.

The Hyosung GT 250r is another popular bike priced at Rs 2.75 lakh. This motorcycle with a 249 cc oil-cooled two-cylinder engine weighs 188 kg and accelerates to 60 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The Hero Karizma launched in June 2014 is priced at less than Rs 1.04 lakh and has a 223cc 20hp engine. The brakes are disc type 276 and 240 mm in size and the maximum speed is 129 kmpl. The Yamaha YZFR 15 priced at around Rs 1.18 lakh offers miles of 42 kmpl with a 150cc engine and 16.7hp.
