Reggie Brown has signed a five-year extension with the Philadelphia Eagles, meaning Brown will stay with them through 2014. The deal is worth $27 million and includes $10 million guaranteed cash.

Brown was a second-round pick last season and is the third member of that draft class to earn a long-term extension with the Eagles.

Brown insists that money had nothing to do with it. Brown is known for his extremely strong work ethic. Brown knows he could forgo a better contract down the road if he signs now. He says that he made the decision for him after weighing all the options. Brown went on to say that he loves the city and his team and that he has no problem playing for the Eagles.

Brown showed what he was made of after becoming a starter when Terrel Owens was cut from the team in the middle of last season. Brown has 26 receptions over 502 years and six touchdowns, including one rushing. Brown’s average of 19.3 yards per catch is considered one of the best among receivers.

The Eagles and Brown’s agent was unable to reach an agreement in time to meet the deadline to allocate the signing bonuses to the salary cap for the year. However, Eagles management made sure that Brown had a chance to try out for free agency after the expiration of his original contract.
