Just like any other sport, cheerleading is based on the team’s ability to work together toward a common goal. However, it seems that cheerleaders take team bonding to a whole other level. Many cheerleaders find that the girls they perform and practice with are not only their teammates, but also their best friends, forming a close-knit bond of “sisters.” Since cheerleaders cover every sporting season, these girls spend most of their time together working to boost school spirit and rally their team to victory. When cheerleaders aren’t performing for a basketball game, football game, or parade, they often participate in other cheerleading activities, such as competitions. The constant interaction makes it absolutely necessary for the cheerleading squad to function as a whole. Teams that function as a whole and come together are more likely to go further and have a more successful season. Here are some normal cheering activities that can have a big impact on team bonding.

  • Fundraisers: Sure, they’re great for bringing your team some much-needed cash, but they can do so much more if you pick the right ones. When looking for fundraisers for your squad, choose those that require girls to participate as a team. While individual fundraisers are a great way for each member to earn some extra money on her own, group fundraisers are what bring them together. Car washes, bake sales, and spirit competitions at school are a great way to help girls bond while achieving a common goal.
  • Community service: Community service is a great way to strengthen the bond between your cheerleaders while giving back to the community. This will help the girls learn to work together for a common purpose and will also leave them feeling a sense of joint pride when they complete their homework. Ask your local chapter of the CEO or your check with the school and city hall to find out where the girls are needed.
  • Parts: Everyone loves a good party and that includes your cheerleaders. While the first two activities helped bring you together as a team, a party can help bring you together as friends. Give them a fun night with a theme party where they can dress up and have a good time. Ice cream socials, Hawaiian nights, and decade parties can be a great way for girls to get silly and get to know each other better.
  • Workshops and Camps: Cheerleading workshops and camps are a great way to improve your team’s skills while strengthening your bonds. These events and activities are meant to build a stronger team and you will be able to speak with professionals who know how to work with cheerleaders and coaches to improve all aspects of the team.
  • Competitions: Engaging the team in competition will not only bond, it will test them and can help you decide which areas your team needs to work on. During the competition, your team will have to show their skills and work together against other teams to achieve the best rankings.
