Creative writing is not just a natural gift that we are born with.

Yes, some people are more talented at writing than others. But a much more important factor in how good a creative writer you become is how much you are willing to learn, experiment, and explore. And simply how much are you willing to WRITE.

So whatever your talent or experience so far, here are 5 key tenets of hearty creative writing.

Use them, starting today, to push your creative writing to new levels:

1. Develop a routine. The only way to write more is to, uh, write more. This becomes much easier if you have a set routine for doing it, rather than stealing a few minutes here and there when you can. Set a specific time every day to dedicate to writing, even if it’s just for 10 or 15 minutes.

2. Praise yourself. It is very easy to lose track of how much we progress in a short time and how much we write. Take note of what you write and when. Once you really get into the flow, you’ll be amazed at how much you can really create each month.

3. Stay energized. In order to continually write new, inventive, and rewarding words, we need to stimulate our senses and imagination. Do everything you can to engage each of your senses and awaken them, then try to use these experiences in your writing. It will make your writing much richer and more engaging, both for your readers and for you writing it.

4. Get support. There is no substitute for a support network of fellow creatives. If you don’t have any creative or supportive friends, look for local groups in your area or join an online creative community. Having someone else behind us to support and encourage us can make a world of difference.

5. Vary your writing. If you always write in the same type of format, you can become an expert in that format. But his writing will get even better if he tries a number of different techniques, from one-line poems to novels and everything in between.

Use these 5 Pillars of Rich Writing and see the difference it makes in both the amount you write and the richness of your writing.

There will never be a better day to start than today, so get writing!
