Interior design can be very versatile. Home design and decoration is not just about taste. It’s all about time, space, budget and of course creativity and imagination. In this sense, the types of interior design can fall into a variety of categories. So let’s take a look at some of those categories and see how we can determine the right interior design for us.

Interior design should reflect the personality of the owner of the space being decorated, not the interior designer. Your space is about you, not about someone else. A good decorator must also be a good judge of character and he must be able to listen, not just talk. That’s why all those interior decorating reality shows are so annoying and over the top. You should never have someone come to your home and redo your entire house to your specific liking. You should know what you want before calling an interior designer for help.

Contemporary style
This style is most often defined by a minimalist style. Bright colors and light are often incorporated to not only give a modern feel to the space, but also to make it appear larger. Visually expanding small spaces is an irreplaceable trend in contemporary style design. The furniture is supposed to project a clean, crisp outline through its smooth lacquer finishes.

traditional style
The old days are reflected through this style. Images of old houses come to mind when we talk about traditional interior design. Conventional curtains, darker colors and bulkier furniture are a recipe for traditional. Furniture often has straight lines and overlapping curves. They feature smooth angles and smooth curves. Classic furniture and accessories often give the traditional style a calm, familiar and well-organized sense.

eclectic style
This is a mix of styles. For example, you take modern or contemporary furniture and mix it with traditional style curtains. The eclectic style can also be a mix of different cultures or time periods. It is very difficult to achieve, therefore you will need to find a very skilled interior designer. This isn’t just a random assortment of furniture and decorations, there’s a logical pattern to this nonsense. Everything that is done here is deliberate. Furniture is matched in shape, color, texture, finish, or scale. This type of design is used in many modern houses. Some have done it on purpose, others by mistake. It’s easy to tell which ones have had the help of interior designers.

budget style
This is my favorite, out of necessity. There are incredibly good designers out there who can do wonders on a small budget. Creating an economic space is not an easy task. Sure, we can all go to a certain Swedish furniture store and buy a bunch of matching furniture. But can we combine them with less expensive curtains, blinds, shutters or rugs? Budget-conscious designers are your destination on this one.

accessibility-style
This style of interior design is probably newer than the contemporary style. The focus here is to create spaces that are used and enjoyed by people with disabilities. Mainly known for wheelchair accessibility in buildings, kitchens and bathrooms, this style is very useful.
