Tired of the same old daily routine? Are you afraid to change it? Why?

No, you shouldn’t quit your job. That would be silly, unless you have developed another income and have it on hand, or a job, that supports it in the same way as your current job, or better.

I’m talking about adding innovation to your life. Edison, and everyone else like him, are not the only ones who can innovate. May. Everyone can, if they exercise their mind, their thinking. So let me try a few to get you started.

1. Listen to others. Edison would have missed out on giving us electricity if he had listened to other people. If you have an original idea, then follow it up. Forget the naysayers until it’s clear he’s either a winner or a loser. You will be challenged, you will know the achievements and you will be happy.

2. Persist. Every good idea, or action, requires dedicating time, making an effort. You can most likely squeeze the time for it, with a little time discipline.

3. A walk. Is that computer driving you crazy every day? Take a walk during breaks or take a break. It will clear your mind and new thoughts, even for old ones, can pop up giving you something new to explore and hopefully enjoy.

4. Ideas and Dreams. Record them, from the absurd to the profound. Review them once a week and you might be surprised at what you learn about yourself and what you can use for your life. Carry a pen and paper with you at all times and take notes. If nothing good happens, you will enjoy the practice.

5. Your style. It’s easy to tell Hemingway from my writing, which means they all have their own style. Each of us is different, therefore, each one has their own style. Find it and explore it, because it is you. Others will appreciate you more and you will like yourself more.

6. Gadgets and tools. Who cares if you have an iPod, a laptop, or some other tool or gadget. Don’t be impressed by them. If you’re thinking about them more and more, don’t. And hone what you have down to what you really need. That’s what winners do, and they have more time for other activities, like becoming a winner at whatever they’ve chosen.

7. Inspired. Do not try to force inspiration or wait for it to happen. They may come to mind at odd times; riding a city bus, driving your car, watching TV, reading a book, while working at a job, while walking, anytime, in other words. Have that pencil and paper handy and write them down before they get lost.

8. Passion. Success comes when there is passion. When you have an idea that is doable, that has real promise, pursue it with passion, with the idea that you must see it done, and it will be.

9. Meditation. Meditation is excellent for self-improvement. It is also good for ordering or rearranging life. Every time you pick up an item and think it will kill you, think about it until you produce something new for use in your life. Used properly, meditation is a good time for oneself.

10. Thoughts. Thoughts result in actions, so you are what you think. Today you are what you thought yesterday. If you don’t like it, then you’re to blame. But the good news is that you can change your thinking and therefore your actions and therefore who you are.

I hope these few items help you break out of whatever rut you find yourself in and help you grow. And maybe they will make you think of more things that you can enjoy, and maybe they will bring you success.
