Jammu is one of the most famous and largest cities in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This city is the winter capital of the state and is known for its varied beauty. Jammu is also known as “The City of Temples” as it is home to numerous temples and shrines. The sky of the city is full of bright Shikaras that rise high in the sky. The city is home to the most popular Hindu temple, “Vaishno Devi”, many pilgrims make their way through the city throughout the year. Pilgrims come from faraway places to worship Goddess Vaishno Devi. Hindus are mostly in the city of Jammu, while the people also practice Sikhism and Islam. Jammu is the most important financial center in the state and the Pir Panjal mountain range separates Jammu from Kashmir.

Jammu is located in the northernmost part of India and is therefore known for its captivating beauty. The place is endowed with the beauty of nature and mesmerizes its visitors. Jammu city borders Ladakh to the east, Kashmir to the north, and Himachal and Punjab to the south. Jammu is separated from Pakistan in the west by the Line of Control, this region is known as Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The people of Jammu are known as Dogras and the language they speak is known as Dogri. The people of Jammu are friendly and the tourists who come to this beautiful place get a unique experience.

The history of Jammu says that Jammu was founded in the 14th century BC. C. by Raja Jambu Lochan. There is a legend associated with him, it is said that during one of the hunting campaigns, Raja Jambu Lochan came near the Tawi river and there he saw an incredible place where the goat and the lion were quenching their thirst in the same place. He was amazed to see this beautiful place and gave up his thoughts of hunting, later he ordered his people to make the palace in that place, as this place was a true example of peace and tranquility. The orders of the king were followed and soon the city was established around him, this city was called Jambu-Nagar, later the name of this city was changed to Jammu. Bahu Fort is one of the most well known places in Jammu and this fort was built by Jambu Lochan.
