I would have loved to regale you with stories about all the Stanley thermoses I have bought and owned, but the truth is I only have one that I bought 6 years ago and never needed to repair or replace it. (I don’t know if it’s a good business strategy for Stanley to offer thermoses that won’t break or fail during a man’s normal lifetime, since he doesn’t have a built-in market for replacements or repairs, but it’s his company and they seem to be successful.) until now)
My Stanley Thermos is a green 1.1-quart classic-style bottle that I bought when I first found out that my new job was in an office that didn’t have its own microwave or hot water dispenser, which meant that if you wanted hot coffee, my only options were to go down a couple of floors and use another company’s microwave, or go down a few more floors so I could get coffee from the building’s vending machine. I decided I would buy my own carafe and bring my own coffee to work, since my job didn’t give me enough free time for unnecessary travel time (which, I thought, added up to more time than it took me to drink all the coffee). cup of coffee, which in turn seemed a bit silly)
Before buying a thermos, I first browsed the internet and read reviews and product descriptions, as I wanted a strong and durable thermos that would keep my coffee hot for a long time, due to my dislike of wasting coffee just because it gets cold. The information provided by different sites and forums was unanimous: Stanley Thermos is king.
I have read stories where people claim that their thermoses are more than 10 years old, having inherited them from their father or grandfather. I’ve also seen video of people putting the Stanley Thermos through a variety of stress tests: letting it roll down an upright position from 8 flights of stairs, slamming it repeatedly against a rock, throwing it off a rooftop onto the pavement, and hit him with a baseball bat. The Stanley thermos did show a couple of dents and a few scratches as expected, but there were no spills or leaks, and the coffee is still hot. I knew then that despite people saying you had to pay a premium for one, the durability and efficiency of the Stanley Thermos would pay for itself over time.
When I bought mine, I immediately took it out of the packaging and proceeded to do a little durability test of my own. I threw it as hard as I could into a nearby wall and as expected, it made me look like a fool, especially with all the people passing by. I have some really weird stars. But as for the thermos, it only suffered a tooth and when I got home I filled it with hot coffee and I didn’t see any leaks. When I went to the office the next day, I realized that I had forgotten about the coffee, but that was fine as the contents were still hot enough to drink.
