Weight loss just got a little more interesting. The advent of nude workout resorts, gyms, and home workout videos has given fitness freaks an added option to shed those extra pounds.

Despite how it may seem, there is nothing sexual or “dirty” about exercising in the nude. Rather, it’s simply an added option to keep people interested in exercising. Certain sports, such as yoga and swimming, are particularly conducive to practicing, given the right conditions. Naked exercise comes with its own set of joys and precautions.

Here are 5 tips for starting your own nude exercise program.

Tip #1: Start at home: If you are like most people, you would never dare step foot in a public place naked. Whatever the future holds, take baby steps into the world of nude exercise by starting at home. The key is preparation. I suggest investing in an inexpensive exercise mat to protect your exposed knees and elbows. Prepare your training area by moving potentially dangerous obstructions, such as furniture, out of the way. Also, have at least two towels ready: a small personal towel and a large towel to place on the floor or rugs. You can find plenty of great and legit nude exercise videos to get you started with the right moves.

Tip #2: Stay safe: Nude exercise can be a wonderful way to lose extra pounds. You will stay cooler and the lack of clothing will allow you to move without restrictions. At the same time, be very careful with certain movements. Whether you’re a man or a woman, certain parts of your body may be more prone to injury than from exercise clothed. I suggest starting out by doing each new exercise very slowly, checking that your movements don’t put you at risk. Be especially careful if you use dumbbells or other special equipment.

Tip #3: Be respectful of others: Nudism is only accepted by a small part of the population. Many people find nudity embarrassing, offensive, or even morally wrong. Even if you disagree with the anti-nudist views, be sure to respect the rights of others. Tip #4: Join a strip club or resort: Once you’ve gotten used to working out at home and have decided that nude exercise is right for you, consider joining a nude resort, club, or tour—they’re on the rise around the world. And, most of them have fully equipped gyms. So, build your confidence in being naked with others and step into new territory.

Tip #5: Try a public nude gym: Nudist exercise gyms do exist: one Dutch gym has now opened its doors to nudists and others are sure to follow. Some of the complaints people have when working out at a strip gym include initial shyness and fear of the occasional unseemly sight of a workout partner. However, most report that shyness quickly wears off once one sees that everyone else is also naked. If you are concerned about watching other people exercise, avoid standing behind treadmills or stationary bikes.

Nude exercise is not for everyone. But, for people who have lost motivation to exercise or simply feel restricted by excessive clothing and want to try something new, exercising in the nude may be a viable option. Make sure you are safe, hygienic and respectful of others and you can have a successful experience working out on the buff.
