Real estate agents in Ontario must renew their real estate license every 2 years under the Real Estate Council of Ontario, also known as RECO. They can do it with a real estate broker registered and in good standing with RECO. Failing to renew your license on or before your specified renewal. date, will result in you being ordered to cease and desist from dealing in Ontario real estate. If the agent does not reinstate your license within 2 years of the non-renewal date, RECO will terminate the license with no further reinstatement options.

You may have become an inactive real estate agent and have let your license lapse, but you will probably find yourself active again at some point in the near or distant future. If you decide that your license is valuable enough and worth keeping active, you should reinstate it as soon as possible and avoid full termination. Please note that you will need to be registered with a broker. If you are going to be inactive, you may want to consider joining a non-board real estate broker who helps licensees like you maintain your license without the high costs you may be used to. Here are some simple instructions on how to reinstate your Ontario real estate license under RECO

A) Visit the RECO website. Google the term and you will find it easily. Go to “publications and resources” and make a note and click on the “registration forms” tab. The “New or Reestablished Broker/Seller” form is the first one. Click and it should load easily.

B) To reintegrate you must fill out sections A, B, C and F. The second half of section F will be completed and authorized by the Real Estate Brokerage in which you have decided to register. The Brokerage is your Employer. When you fill it out, you’ll find that RECO has made it easy to pay with one of the major credit cards by adding their credit card payment form found on page 6. Please check the updated information on your form for pricing and remember that you will be billed for errors. and omission fees after your application has been approved.

C) Important: Registrants within the first two-year registration cycle must successfully complete three additional educational courses designated by the registrar before filing a registration reinstatement application. For all other reinstatements, you must also meet continuing education requirements before filing a registration reinstatement application. Be sure to read Section D of the form and call RECO directly if your information is unclear.

Finally, submit that application to the Ontario Real Estate Board as soon as possible. Your real estate brokerage employer can take care of this for you, but doing it yourself is often a better option and is recommended.
