Not everyone knows this, but in addition to the six meals you eat on Medifast, you can eat two snacks a day. Of course, these snacks can’t be whatever you want. There is a list of snacks that you have to choose from. But, they do offer you some decent options. And one of the options on the list is ice pops. I think this option gets a lot of interest because they are a sweet or dessert option that many people crave when dieting. But you should know that you probably shouldn’t just blindly pick out the first popsicle you pass in the grocery store because they’re not all the same.
Ideally, you want them to be fruity, but you definitely want them to be sugar-free. One of the main principles of this diet is not to eat too many carbohydrates so that your body can burn fat instead of carbohydrates to enter a metabolic state called ketosis. And if you have a sugar-filled snack, this process could be delayed or even thwarted. Also, this is just my opinion, but I try very hard to stay away from artificial sugars. I prefer products with sugar alcohols. They are converted to glucose more slowly and do not require insulin for this process, which means your blood sugar remains stable.
Here’s another idea and please take this as advice only. This is just something I do that I have found useful. But if you have any specific compliance questions, ask the company itself. I freeze some of the Medifast shakes to make my own popsicle which is extremely low in sugar. I like to use the Dutch chocolate flavor with a bit of water. You can freeze it in a ramekin, ice cream tray, or cup (to eat with a spoon later). I think these homemade options taste like chocolate to me. And because I know exactly what’s in it, I don’t have to worry that I’m consuming something I shouldn’t or something that will spike my blood sugar.
Not that it’s really hard to find a sugar-free item at the grocery store (which hopefully includes sugar alcohols), but sometimes I like variety and having a chocolate option is nice too. However, you can also try the vanilla or banana flavor depending on your preferences.
