The Standard Hotel is actually a group of boutique hotels in Los Angeles, Miami, and New York that have received five-star reviews from businessmen and travelers.
The Standard hotel first opened on the Sunset Strip in 1999 in West Hollywood, California. It opened in a place called Chateau Marmont and was one of the hotels that sported avant-garde decor. Everything about the hotel was built and modeled after that genre, as well as the hotel’s signage and logo following that trend. Andre Balazs Properties was the company that opened and continues to lead the hotel chain to this day.
The building that housed the Standard was originally called the Thunderbird Hotel and opened in 1962. It later became a retirement hotel when Balazs bought it and controlled its functions. His investors included celebrities DiCaprio, “Charlies Angels” Cameron Diaz, various rock groups and other influential actors.
Over the years, the Standard Hotel has hosted numerous events such as the launch of Michael Neumann’s famous NYLON magazine. The hotel has also been the scene of numerous model photo shoots.
There are four Stand Hotels and each one has its own distinctive style. The most notable of the four is the New York and Downtown Los Angeles hotel. When the New York hotel opened, it sported extensive modernist design throughout its façade and interior. Similarly, the hotel introduced outdoor dining, which sparked some controversy when patrons did not want to be exposed to passersby.
The downtown Los Angeles hotel became famous for its rooftop pool and bar. This particular place has been featured in many interviews and photo shoots for different people and not just celebrities.
The Standard Hotel was one of the hotels that has been plagued with rumors and controversy on a regular basis, as many of its founding investors and members have been famous celebrities. Most of the public have liked to associate the scandals with the Standard Hotel. Sometimes this turned out to be a blessing and sometimes a nightmare as advertising for the hotel went up and down.
Despite the publicity with the media, the Standard Hotel has continued to strive to provide its clients with the utmost confidentiality and service during their stay.
The Standard Hotel continues to be on a par with many other hotel chains that have scored highly in customer satisfaction despite being limited within the borders of their own country.
An interesting note is that the Sunset Strip hotel has a picture of a woman, the location features a woman lying down behind the front desk, just behind the glass partition.
