Windhoek is the capital of Namibia. It is located in the middle of the country in a beautiful green valley between the Eros and Auras mountains. This town was the old stronghold during the German colonization and the architectural structures that survive to date make tourists understand the overwhelming influence that the Germans had. This includes the administration building which is the main tourist center which has two museums (Owela and State) Other architectures include Christuskirche Palace, Tintenpalast palace, Alte Feste and Gross Barmen. The combination of old and modern architecture makes the city beautiful and very attractive.

Etosha National Park is the largest and most impressive with a wide variety of game. This park was preserved in 1907 and has a total area of about 22,270 square kilometers. About one hundred and fourteen species of mammals and three hundred and forty species of birds have been recorded here. This park has three resorts, namely Hatali, Namutoni, and Okaukuejo, all of which have water holes. A large number of animals converge here at any time of the day or night, which allows tourists to have time to watch game, as well as take pictures. The Etosha is an attractive geographical feature formed from a shallow depression. It is located at 1065 m above sea level and forms a huge salty depression that occasionally fills with water. This hollow is surrounded by bushes and vegetation that provide food for many wild animals such as zebras, lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs, kudus, hyenas, gazelles, giraffes, jackals and gemboks.

The Namibian desert is the world’s oldest desert, stretching from the Kunene River to the north and the Orange River to the south. It borders the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The cold Benguela current that sweeps across the African continent creates a morning mist over the country that helps many animals and plants to survive. Some attractive sites in this area include the city of Swakopmund. It is located on the coast where the palm trees, promenades and colonial architecture add to its beauty. The city of Walvis Bay is located south of Swakopmund. It was discovered by early whalers as a rare deep-water bay on a shallow shoreline. It is home to approximately forty percent of South Africa’s pink flamingos and several species of birds.

The Skeleton Coast is a fantastic landscape. It is here that the bones of skeletons and shipwrecks are blown by the cold sea breeze and are seen scattered all over the coast. Skeleton Coast is situated within a park; however, only part of the area is open to the public. The Spitzkoppe iceberg is a rock climbing mecca and is another interesting site. The climb is tough and involves tiptoeing as you work your way through crevices in the rock.
