The Kun trigram is symbolically recognized as three dashed lines, one above the other. It is associated with the earth element and the southwest direction. People who are of the Kun trigram, such as those born in 1944, 1953, 1962, 1971, 1980 and who repeat every nine years, may be prone to illness or injury in the abdominal region. Digestive or reproductive problems can be common with people of the Kun trigram, as well as spleen.

Kun is the image of flat land or soft ground, such as earth or sand. The Kun trigram is a symbol of the mother in the family structure, and men belonging to the Kun trigram can be very loving, caring, and sweet.

You may have already read about your personal trigram, and the birth years I just listed would be considered the male-only Kun trigram, if one were to adhere only to the Ba Zhai School of Feng Shui. This School is often referred to as the School of Eight Mansions. In the early 8th century, this branch of Feng Shui was altered to create a different trigram for women born in the same year as men. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this change and few consultants are aware of or willing to discuss it. Some classical practitioners have reverted to the original determination of the personal, non-gender specific trigram.

To determine the trigram, we have the starting date of February 4 or 5, and not January 1. For example, if someone was born on January 9, 1945, the Chinese solar calendar would consider them born in 1944.

The Kun trigram is sometimes written with an apostrophe, such as K’un. It’s the same energy and symbol, just a different dialect.

All trigrams are related to periods of time, a specific direction, elements and their colors, seasons, areas of the body, and a member of the nuclear family. Kun is associated with Period 2, with the latest Period 2 being a time frame between 1884-1903. The next cycle of Period 2 will be 2064-2083. Kun is the span of southwest, from 202.5 degrees to 247.5 degrees on the compass. Since Kun is an earth trigram, it is related to colors like yellow, orange, and brown. As a season, Kun would be most associated with autumn.

The Kun person can use the Northeast direction to attract wealth, such as making that his sleeping direction or the place of entry. This could be considered a personal lucky address, which still doesn’t account for the best addresses of a building, regardless of who uses it. A building or a house will have its own “wealth” areas, depending on the orientation and, more precisely, depending on the year of construction.

For the person of the Kun trigram, a secondary direction that can help them to be successful is the direction of west. An example of this might be if the Kun person sits at his desk facing west.

The northwest direction is the one that can generate sympathy, trust, personal and professional harmony for the Kun person. A politician would benefit from using this “Wu Cu” address as much as any “wealth” address.

Within this branch of Feng Shui called Ba Zhai, there are two camps: the East Type people and the West Type people. The Kun person belongs to the West group and prefers the directions Northeast, West, Northwest and Southwest over the other four main directions East, Southeast, North and South.
